Reminder: Verify Patient Profiles Before Creating New Ones
This is a reminder to search for patients by Date of Birth and review existing information before creating a new patient profile in ECP AND MVE. I have recently come across several duplicate patient records that were created because an existing profile was not properly searched or verified first.
Moving forward, the following steps must be followed:
Search the patient by DOB.
Review any profiles that appear in the results.
Confirm the patient’s demographic information (address, phone number, insurance, etc.).
Update the existing profile if any information has changed.
Only create a new profile if you have confirmed that the patient does not already exist in the system.
Duplicate records cause issues with billing, insurance processing, and patient history. They also require additional time to correct after the fact. Taking a moment to properly search and verify a patient’s information prevents these problems.
